Introduction of Sensing Clues
Sensing Clues, founded in 2017, is an organisation supported by 15 solution partners, 40 volunteers, and with customers in 12 countries worldwide. In 2020 we supported our customers to protect 1 million hectares of nature. We aim to double this every year for the next 3 years. This is our definition of impact!
Our mission is to turn wild spaces into safe havens. We reach that by providing NGOs with advanced data-driven technologies that deliver actionable insights to fight wildlife crime, increase biodiversity, and manage human-wildlife coexistence.
Why do we need you?
One of Sensing Clues' applications is called Cluey. Cluey is an Android mobile app, see https://sensingclues.org/cluey. In Cluey, users can enter observations and run tracks. Users work together in a group, similar to a WhatsApp group, and the group administrator can set a large number of settings via the phone. That seems convenient, but it is not always so because you are working on a small screen and have little overview.
Your task is therefore to create a web application in which this group administration can also take place.
Your skills
You should:
Have an interest in nature & wildlife management
Have knowledge of React
Speak and write English (Dutch comes in handy too!)
Be able to work independently
What CAN we offer you?
First of all, a good feeling 😊! You are going to work for a good cause and contribute concretely to improving nature conservation. Not directly in the field but our partners are really helped if they can manage their groups better. We also have a super-motivated and fun team of volunteers and a number of people in permanent employment or as freelancers. We all work from our passion and that makes the atmosphere and cooperation especially good!
You will of course receive guidance, both technical and organisational/functional. The aim is not only to create a nice application, but also for you to develop and learn. And that you can finish the assignment with a nice grade.
The internship remuneration is a maximum of 300 euros per month. It is sometimes possible to visit one of our partners in the field (in Africa or Europe) and work there for a few weeks. The travel expenses for such a visit we, as a foundation, unfortunately cannot reimburse but we promise this will be an experience you will never forget!
Logistics
The assignment will preferably take place in the first half of 2023. At Sensing Clues we work mainly remote via Slack, but you can also find us every week in Nieuwegein. We expect the assignment to last around 3 months with 3-4 working days per week. We are flexible with working hours and days and the duration of the assignment can be adjusted by mutual agreement.
